Last week we had a volunteer meeting, where we explained the scope of work when it comes to caring for dogs in a charity organisation such as 2nd Chance Dogs.

Volunteering plays a vital role for us, contributing to our efforts to keep essential tasks under control, but also provides invaluable support in terms of socialisation for the dogs.
Doris and Marios, had the chance to explain what values they consider important when it comes to volunteers.
“The most important thing we are looking for in volunteers is commitment. We need people who are willing to commit their time and energy into helping us, without expecting anything in return” – said Marios.
Doris added that “being responsible is another key value for us. We need people who understand the weight of responsibility that comes with taking care of someone else’s life”.
We always welcome new volunteers, as they bring with them enthusiasm, care and a fresh perspective – something that is essential in any organisation. However, we also emphasise the above values of commitment and responsibility as, these are the elements that drive us back on our path, for the day when all dogs in Cyprus are treated with compassion and respect, to be able to live their lives without pain, suffering and fear of euthanization.
This is because, while the work can be physically and emotionally demanding at times, it is important to remember that the dogs are relying on us to provide them with the best possible care.
Experience taught us that many people just want to come by, see and play with the dogs which is absolutely fine! However, there is a fine line when it comes to playing and socialising dogs, to actually being a 2nd Chance Dogs volunteer.
We are always happy to show people around and answer any questions they might have. The purpose of such volunteer gatherings is as such. To educate and show the scope of work when someone decides to become a 2nd Chance Dogs volunteer
