I came to the shelter when I was just a puppy.

I was born to a backyard breeder who gave me away for free to a lady. It didn't take long for her to realise that I wasn't a "normal" puppy. I'm a special needs dog—the unfortunate result of irresponsible backyard breeding.

Soon after, she gave me away too, and that's how I found my way to 2nd Chance Dogs.

The wonderful people here wanted to understand why I was different, so they took me for a CT scan. It revealed changes in the falx cerebri (the membrane that separates the two halves of the brain), consistent with an anatomical variation. In simple words, my brain developed a little differently.

The funny thing is... I don't know that.

I'm not in pain. I don't feel sorry for myself. I wake up every day with a wagging tail, excited for breakfast, cuddles, walks, toys, and all the little things that make life wonderful. I'm just a happy dog who loves living.

The only thing that's different about me is that I don't have full control of my bladder and bowels. I know when I need to go to the toilet, but I just can't hold it like other dogs can. It's not painful for me—it's simply an inconvenience for the humans.

I've learned to live with it. I don't let it stop me from enjoying every single day.

But there's one thing that does make me sad...

I've spent almost my entire life at the shelter.

I've watched puppy after puppy arrive, grow up, and leave with their forever families. I've wagged my tail as my friends packed their bags and walked out the gate.

And every time, I stayed behind.

I'm still waiting.

Not because I don't deserve a home. Not because I don't have love to give. Just because I'm different.
